We all love the look of false eyelashes. Wear them by themselves for a nearly imperceptible enhancement of your natural features, or pair them with a little eyeliner and lipstick for a sultry, elegant look that could effortlessly transition from the office to an evening event. But what most of us don’t love is the thought of applying traditional falsies. They’re messy, sticky, difficult, and end up taking a few of your real lashes with them whence removed.
Enter magnetic lashes. They solve these problems by magnetizing to your eyelid via either amagnetic eyeliner, or by “sandwiching” your lashes between two layers of false lashes. For our purposes, we will focus on themagnetic liner lashes since they’re a bit lighter than wearing two layers of false lashes on a single eyelid.
There are a large variety of fibers to choose from when shopping for magnetic lashes. They range from traditional synthetics, which are the cheapest but also the most fake-looking, to luxurious “real” fibers, such as horse hair, mink, and human hair, to vegan silk. The two most popular types are mink and vegan silk lashes, which is why we’ve focused on them for this post. Below are the pros and cons of each type.
If you want high durability and minimal maintenance, vegan silk lashes are the way to go. If you want to wear your lashes all day long and have them hold their curl through rain, moisture, face washes, and handling, then mink isn’t a great option. Vegan silk lashes can tolerate more handling than mink, which are known to be a bit more fragile, so they will generally last longer as well. Mink lashes are luxurious, but with luxury comes delicacy, which means they’re less able to hold a curl and require gentler handling to keep them in good condition.
